Civil war

- Caused by events in Ireland

- In 1641 – ireland in rebellion against the Protestant English and Scottish settlers, over 3000 people were killed most of them in Ulster, Irish rebels rebeled against parlament not against the king.

- He tried to arrest 5 MPs in parlament - unsucessfully

- London locked its gates and against the king and Charles moved to Nottingham – gathered an army to defeat those MPs who opposed him. The civil war started(1642)

- The Royalist– controlled N and W, most of the house of lords, a few of commons

- Roundheads –controlled E. Anglia, southes and London, Parlament, they had short hair – supported by the Navy, merchants and population of London

- Army of Royalist – havent got money, so they couldnt paid to soldiers, so they run away and in 1645 Roundheads won
